Thomas J. Hanlon, CFA, CFP®, CEBS

President

In addition to managing research activities, Tom is part of the Firm’s investment strategy group and is responsible for portfolio management. Tom's broad credentials add great technical expertise to our corporate 401(k) and individual financial planning services.

Prior to joining Courier Capital, Tom was a Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager and Regional Manager for M&T Bank’s Private Client Services. He was responsible for managing investment portfolios for high net worth clients, institutions, foundations, and employee benefit plans. He also managed the Trust & Estates, Employee Benefit, and Portfolio Management sales and client servicing teams for the Western New York region of the Private Client Services group. Previously, Tom was a Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager with HSBC Bank, USA where in addition to managing client portfolios, he also served as Chairman for the regional Trust Investment Compliance Committee and provided financial planning services for high net worth clients.

Tom holds a B.S. degree in Business Management from Canisius College and earned his M.B.A. in Finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter-holder of the CFA Institute, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) licensee governed by the CFP Board of Standards, and earned the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation through the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

Tom is a past board member of the CFA Society of Buffalo and held the officer positions of Treasurer, Vice-President and Society President. He is also active in coaching his children’s soccer teams, involved in youth baseball, and has served as a committee member and leader for local Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troops.

William H. Gurney

Executive Vice-President & Senior Portfolio Manager

In addition to client portfolio management, Bill leads our fixed income research and strategy function, and provides fundamental research support to our economic and equity research process.

Bill studied finance & economics at St. Lawrence University. After graduation, he relocated to San Francisco and traded fixed income instruments for Bank of America’s corporate portfolio. Bill was recruited by HSBC to manage its North American municipal bond & futures portfolio. He later joined HSBC’s Private Clients’ Group where he managed stock and bond portfolios for high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations. Most recently, Bill was instrumental in successfully implementing and developing the bank’s brokerage business. He joined Courier in 2003.

Bill is currently a Director of an international investment company and is an active board member of several area foundations.

Rebecca L. Westervelt AIF®

Senior Managing Director - Retirement Services

Rebecca serves as Managing Director of HNP Capital with over 22 years of experience in high impact roles in the investment services industry. She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of wealth management and asset management operations, as well as leading and supporting the strategic vision of the firm. Before joining HNP Capital in 2017, Rebecca was Partner and Senior Vice President at Generation Capital Management. Prior, she was a senior portfolio manager at Karpus Investment Management.

Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and English from Bucknell University in 1997 and received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004. She also earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary™ professional designation. 

Jason M. Stronz

Senior Managing Director - Institutional Services

Jason is based in the company’s Jamestown office, and he graduated from Allegheny College with a bachelor’s degree in English and has an M.B.A. from Lake Erie College. Stronz oversees key institutional, professional services and individual client relationships, ensuring that client needs are understood and services are consistent with such needs and the Firm’s investment programs. He also supports Firm marketing and sales efforts, performs research as needed to support client advice and investment solutions, and assists with technology initiatives that promote state-of-the art client service.

Prior to joining Courier Capital, Stronz served as the Executive Director for the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. In this role, he executed strategies to support implementation of the City of Jamestown’s Urban Design Plan and Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. Stronz was responsible for financial oversight of urban design and neighborhood revitalization initiatives, managing over $3M in grant-funded downtown development projects and neighborhood revitalization tasks. He also served as an advisor to officers, board members and community partners on public relations, public affairs, communications and issues management.

Stronz, who spent six years working in collegiate athletics administration positions before returning to Jamestown, is an active volunteer in the community. Among other efforts, he is President of the Board of Trustees for the Jamestown Community Learning Council and volunteers for the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County and Junior Achievement of Western New York.

James E. Iglewski

Senior Managing Director

Jim Iglewski joined Courier Capital in July 2022 after a long and successful career in private banking with several large U.S. banks. In his role Jim manages investment portfolios for institutional and high net worth clients and serves on the firm’s investment committee, guiding investment strategy for the firm.

Prior to joining Courier Jim was a Managing Director at U.S. Trust/Bank of America in New York city and headed up the Institutional Portfolio Management team for BofA in the Northeaster U.S. In this role he helped develop and implement investment policy for some of the largest non-profit institutions in the country while leading a team of portfolio strategists in delivering the investment strategy of the firm. He served as the Bank’s Proxy Committee Chair voting on shareholder issues on behalf of clients and was a member of the Chief Investment Office leadership team.

Jim’s immediate focus is on growing the non-profit client base of Courier, and his past experience adds to an already strong investment team at Courier. Jim is passionate about helping non-profit foundations and endowments reach their investment goals and helping them to mission success. He has spoken at many industry events on the challenges facing foundation and endowment investment committees. Jim has served on the boards of numerous Western New York non-profits, including the BPO, Buffalo Renaissance Foundation, Hilbert College Board of Trustees, Gerard Place, and the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, among others.

Steven A. Gattuso, CFA, CFP®, CMA

Chief Investment Officer & Senior Portfolio Manager

Steve joined Courier Capital in 2012 from his previous position at the Wilmington Trust division of M&T Bank where he managed portfolios for Trusts, Estates and High Net Worth Individuals. Steve’s more than 25 years of investment experience also include portfolio management at Empire of America and financial management for the General Motors Corporation. Steve is affiliated with Canisius College as the Director of the Golden Griffin Fund and assistant professor in the Economics/Finance department where he teaches graduate and undergraduate Finance and Investments.

Steve earned a BA in Economics and Computer Science as well as his MBA in Finance from Canisius College. He is a CFA charter holder (Chartered Financial Analyst) and he has attained the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations. He has served on the Board of the CFA Society of Buffalo in several positions, including President from 2011 to 2015. In 2019, Steve completed his second 2-year term as President's Council Representative (PCR) representing the 13 CFA Societies in the Eastern Region of the United States. His community activities include Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House, coaching premier level soccer and he is on the Advisory Board for the Clarence Academy of Finance.

Stephen R. Robshaw

Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager

Steve was the founder of Robshaw & Julian Associates, Inc. which recently joined Courier Capital LLC. 

Prior to establishing one of the original WNY investment advisory firms, Steve was the Chief Investment Officer and Vice President in charge of M&T Bank’s Investment Department. He was responsible for developing the firm’s investment strategies for high net worth clients, institutions, foundations, and employee benefit plans.  He was also Director of Research tasked with specific industry research applied to the investment direction of the firm and its clients.  Steve was in charge of client communication and portfolio performance tracking.  Steve began his career as a security analyst for H.C. Wainwright & Co. Inc and has spent much of his career serving on investment committees and teaching economics at the University of Buffalo and Millard Fillmore College.

Steve graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a B.A. in History and earned his M.B.A. in Business from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is an SEC registered Investment Advisor, a member of the CFA Society of Buffalo and the CFA Institute and an advisor to the University of Buffalo investment committee as well as to the Sisters of Saint Francis.

Nicholas T. Norvell, CFP®

Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Manager

Nick is a co-founder of HNP with more than 21 years of professional experience in the financial services arena. Nick is an independent Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) who has been working closely with families and individuals to formulate, implement, monitor and update their comprehensive financial plans. In this role, he creates custom-designed strategic programs that address issues in the areas of wealth management, retirement, income distribution and estate planning. Nick is highly-skilled at formulating financial plans for high-net-worth families, individuals and business owners. He also serves on the firm's investment management committee.

Over the course of his career, Nick has provided expert witness testimony on fiduciary responsibility, fundamentals of diversification and asset management for specific client objectives.

Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He is also a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) licensee. Nick is a member of the prestigious George Eastman Circle and serves on the Seneca Waterways Council of the Boy Scouts of America for its Annual Sporting Clays.

Thomas B. Reading, CWA

Senior Vice President & Senior Portfolio Advisor

Tom has been at the Senior Executive level with over 30 years of experience in financial services. He has a successful track record with management and supervision of multiple investment programs for his clients. He is a 1985 graduate of The College of Wooster and a 2005 graduate with a CWA from the Estate and Wealth Strategies Institute at Michigan State University.


His primary focus has been and will continue to be with high net worth clients in the Pittsburgh region as well as Western Pennsylvania and Western New York. He will have the opportunity to work independently or as part of the Courier Capital investment management team. Tom will be offering a solutions based approach that will be customized to each clients specific needs. He has a broad background in financial services having served in various roles with life, property and casualty insurance sales before moving into investment management. In 1993, Tom began his career in investment management with Morgan Stanley followed by Merrill Lynch and PNC.

Tom resides in Pittsburgh with his wife Tracey and they have two sons Blake and Spencer. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association and as a Director of Win-Sum Ski Corporation (Holiday Valley Resort and Conference Center). He previously served on the Major Individual Gifts committee of The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Tom enjoys golf, skiing, travel and volunteering where he has supported the First Tee of Pittsburgh and has had various leadership roles with the PGA Tour and USGA.
